By Breaking Belize News Staff: Bus driver Ocean Blease is a free man after a charge of aggravated assault against him was officially withdrawn in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court at the request of the complainant, traffic officer Kenrick Deshield.
Blease, who had been jointly charged with conductor Evan Caine following a November 2024 incident onboard a Bluebird bus, maintained his innocence throughout the legal proceedings. The charge stemmed from a confrontation on November 26, 2024, in which Deshield was allegedly assaulted while carrying out his duties as a public officer.
While Caine had already pleaded guilty to the charge in late 2024 and was fined $1,300 after a brief stint in prison and an open-court apology, Blease’s case continued separately. However, in court today, Officer Deshield testified that he no longer wished to pursue the matter against Blease, clarifying that while Blease may have been present, he did not view him as the primary aggressor.
“I just want to put the incident behind me and continue with my life,” Deshield told the court, citing the emotional toll the case had taken on him and his family.
According to police reports, Deshield had boarded the bus during a routine traffic stop between Miles 2 and 3 on the George Price Highway, where he noticed overcrowding. He attempted to intervene, but the situation escalated. Deshield reported being pushed off the bus by Caine and alleged Blease played a role in the assault.
In his off-camera interview, Deshield acknowledged seeing surveillance footage that showed Blease’s hand striking him, but insisted the push came solely from Caine.
With the case formally dropped for want of prosecution, Blease exited the courtroom free.
