By Horace Palacio: Police are investigating a burglary and shootout in Sandhill Village after two armed intruders broke into a home and fired at a neighbor before escaping into nearby bushes.
Authorities responded to the incident around 12:14 p.m. on Monday after receiving reports of a break-in at a residence near Mile 19, Sandhill Village. According to the homeowner, he was alerted by his common-law wife that their house was being burglarized. He immediately contacted a neighbor, who checked the property and saw two men in long-sleeved clothing exiting the back door.
One of the intruders fired at the neighbor, who returned fire using his licensed firearm. Despite the exchange, both burglars managed to escape into the bushes behind the property.
Police and Scenes of Crime personnel processed the scene, recovering several stolen items and gathering evidence. Investigators confirmed that entry was made through the back door. The suspects remain at large as police continue their search.
