By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): After four straight months of falling tourism arrivals, the Belize Tourism Board says the upcoming high season is looking strong.
Director of Tourism Evan Tillett said bookings are already coming in.
“We have seen the bookings and it seems to be a very robust high season, so we are hoping to make up back some ground,” he said.
Tillett admitted the industry’s recent performance has fallen short, pointing to geopolitical headwinds affecting travel.
“The softness that we have seen and the performance of the industry is not where we want it to be,” he said.
The BTB previously confirmed that overnight arrivals dropped 8.4% from June to September, with August the weakest month at 13% down. Higher fuel prices, airfares and global uncertainty were among the factors cited.
Even so, Tillett said Belize is still holding its own and is well positioned to bounce back.
