By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Julius Espat’s time at the helm of Home Affairs has come to an end.
In announcing his Cabinet adjustments on Tuesday, Prime Minister John Briceño singled out Espat for special thanks, praising his “stellar work” as interim Minister of Home Affairs.
Espat stepped into the role after Oscar Mira was sidelined following the “Mira Millions” scandal. The ministry, now renamed the Ministry of National Security, has been assigned to Michel Chebat, who will also keep Energy and Ports.
The official release did not list a new portfolio for Espat.
Other changes include Ramon Cervantes taking on Public Utilities, Logistics and Solid Waste Management, Dr. Osmond Martinez becoming Minister of Economic Transformation, and Henry Charles Usher being confirmed in the substantive post of Minister responsible for Enterprise.
Ramiro Ramirez remains a Minister of State.
The reshuffle comes as the Prime Minister prepares to lead the PUP toward the 2030 general election, amid reports of tension within the party.
