By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A long Cabinet meeting in Belmopan has produced one of the biggest shakeups of the Briceño administration.
Here is what changed:
Michel Chebat, Cayo North, now heads the newly named Ministry of National Security, overseeing the Belize Police Department and the Belize Defence Force. He keeps Energy and Ports.
Ramon “Monchi” Cervantes, Orange Walk North, takes the Ministry of Public Utilities and Solid Waste Management.
Dr. Osmond Martinez, Toledo East, moves from Minister of State to full minister of Economic Transformation.
The biggest question mark hangs over Julius Espat, who had been responsible for Home Affairs since Oscar Mira was sidelined over the “Mira Millions” scandal. There has been no official word on his future.
The reshuffle comes days after Prime Minister John Briceño confirmed he plans to lead the PUP into the 2030 general election, and amid reports of tension within the party’s top ranks.
