By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Prime Minister John Briceño has announced a series of measures aimed at easing the burden on Belizeans following a sharp increase in fuel prices.

In a 12-minute national statement released on Monday, the prime minister addressed the recent rise in diesel prices, which increased by $1.35 per gallon at midnight on Friday. He clarified that the government has not increased fuel taxes and is instead absorbing a portion of the cost.

Briceño explained that excise taxes on regular gasoline have been reduced by 68 cents, while diesel taxes have been cut by $1.55. These reductions amount to approximately $4.7 million per month, with projections reaching $60 million for the fiscal year.

Despite these interventions, the prime minister warned that continued increases in global fuel acquisition costs may require further adjustments by Cabinet.
