By Jose Miguel Cruz: An attending nurse and doctor were physically assaulted at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) a short while ago.
The male patient was in the surgical ward when the patient’s visiting female companion first began slapping the patient and when the attending nurse told her to stop, the visiting woman became deranged and allegedly attacked the nurse.
Hospital personnel report that the deranged woman shoved the nurse on one of the beds in the surgical ward, then proceeded to break an IV stand and threatened to stab both the nurse and the doctor.
Following the violent commotion, the deranged woman stormed out of the surgical ward with the IV stand in hand.
A police report of the incident is being made at this time.
This incident is apparently not the first of its kind at the KHMH, and hospital employees fear that because of inadequate security, more serious incidents at the KHMH are possible. In fact, because of the extent of gang and other violent activities in the city, it is possible that one of these incidents can include the use of more deadly weapons, and that attacks can even occur on patients being treated at the hospital, as well as on hospital personnel.
