By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City couple busted with a loaded firearm in 2023 learned their fate in court on Wednesday, Jaheem Morris is heading to prison, while Kimara Carillo walked away with a fine.
The couple was found guilty of kept firearm and kept ammunition without a gun license in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court following a trial in Court #4.
Morris, 21, was sentenced to 2 years, 8 months, and 14 days behind bars on each count. The sentences were ordered to run concurrently, meaning he will serve a total of 2 years, 8 months, and 14 days.
His 22-year-old girlfriend, Kimara Carillo, was spared jail time. As a first-time offender, she was fined $250 on each charge plus court costs of $5 each, totaling $510.
The convictions stem from a November 3, 2023 incident in which the couple was found in possession of a 9mm pistol and 10 live rounds of ammunition.
As he was led away to begin his prison sentence, a visibly disappointed Morris exclaimed, “They chance meh!”
Meanwhile, Carillo is expected to pay her fines without facing any time in prison.
