By Zoila Palma: On January 6, 2026, the Benque Viejo Town Counci informed all taxi operators registered under a taxi association operating within the Benque Viejo Town limits that a grace period will be granted for the payment and renewal of annual trade licenses.
All taxi operaters have until February 6th, 2026, renew your trade license as required under the Trade Licensing Act of Belize.
“Please be reminded that operating a taxi, constitutes a trade or business under the provisions of the Trade License Act. It is an offense to operate a business or trade without a trade license. We encourage you to obtain your trade license by the aforementioned date. Failure to do so will result in the cessation of business operations and appropriate legal action under the Trade License Act will be taken against non-compliant taxi operators in accordance with the law,” the council said.
Mayor of Benque Viejo Jorge Rosales encouraged all association taxi operators to take advantage of this grace period and visit the Benque Viejo Town Council offices from Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM at your earliest convenience to complete the necessary applications and payments.
“I ask for your full cooperation in this matter as we work together to ensure compliance and the smooth operation of taxi services in Benque Viejo Town,” Mayor Rosales said.
