By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize’s Mikhaila Bowden is the only player in Concacaf League C selected to the Concacaf Best 11 for the three consecutive months. Bowden, a centre-back with the Belize Women’s National Team (BWNT), was selected to the Top Eleven list along with midfielder and Captain Sabrina Eiley and left wing-back Carlene Tillett for the November window.

Bowden, who led the BWNT with five goals along with forward Khalydia Velasquez, was selected to Concacaf’s Best XI for the September, October, and November windows.

In October, Bowden was named to the Top 11 along with left winger Vaylene Lambert, and right offensive midfielder Ashley Rodríguez. In September, she was accompanied in Concacaf’s Best XI lineup by goalkeeper Idania Ramirez and right forward Khalydia Velasquez.

“Congratulations to our three athletes being featured in the League C November window! Carlene Tillet, Sabrina Eiley, Mikhaila Bowden,” the FFB said in a social media post.

The trio were pivotal in Belize’s wins over Bonaire and Aruba to complete a sweep of six consecutive wins in Concacaf League C’s Group A earning their promotion to League B.

As a defender Bowden consistently impressed Concacaf throughout the tournament becoming the only player to make the Best XI every single month ahead of Aruba’s left forward Bonny Lammers and Cuba right midfielder Jéssica Pupo Álvarez who were selected to the Best XI in October and November. Bowden didn’t limit herself to Belize’s defensive area and was often found in the opposing side of the field netting goals for Belize.

“Bowden was her usual consistent, superb self and made another Best XI after scoring a goal from four shots on top of making two clearances,” Concacaf said.

Belize’s captain Sabrina Eiley was honored by Concacaf for her outstanding performance in the BMNT’s flawless 6-0 run in the November window. Eiley, who lost her father shortly before the matches, showed remarkable resilience and leadership in guiding her team to victory. She was especially dominant against Bonaire.

Concacaf also recognized captain Sabrina Eiley’s outstanding performance in the BMNT’s two victories in the November window to complete their flawless 6-0 in Group A. Eiley’s  performance was even more enviable as she was going through a rough personal time due the death of her father just before the final two matches against Bonaire and Aruba. Despite that, the BMNT captain showed remarkable resilience and leadership in guiding her team to victory. She was especially dominant against Bonaire.

“Eiley was one of the many standouts for Belize during the window and had a brace in the 5-1 win at Bonaire. She also had a clearance in defense,” Concacaf said.

Twenty-five year old Eiley will next be leading the BMNT as they face a tougher challenge when they compete in the higher-level Concacaf League B.

Carlene Tillett didn’t make BMNT’s initial lineup but was voted to the Concacaf Top Eleven based on her performances, particularly in the BMNT’s 5-1 rout of Bonaire in Rincon.

“It was Tillett time off the bench for Belize, as the defender scored two goals from four shots in just 45 minutes of action,” of Belize only substitute player to make the Best XI in the three windows.

Bowden, Eiley, and Tillett made the Concacaf Best XI squad along with goalkeeper Dyvienne Henriquez of Aruba; defender Anaise Piar of Curacao; midfielders Melania Fullerton of Grenada, Jéssica Pupo Álvarez of Cuba, Arnicka Louis of Saint Lucia; and forwards Bonny Lammers of Aruba, Kadisha Martina of Curacao, and Vanessa Susanna of Aruba.

Belize finished Group A with 18 points, doubling Aruba’s nine. Bonaire totalled seven points and Turks and Caicos earned one point.
