Belizean youth represent at regional school Safety Forum

By Zoila Palma:  The Department of Youth Services proudly nominated 6 young leaders to represent Belize at the 3rd Annual Virtual Youth Forum on School Safety, part of the 2025 Caribbean Safe School Initiative.

Held virtually, the forum brought together youth from across the region to discuss and promote safer, more resilient school environments.

The Belizean delegation, comprising individuals aged 14 to 29, reflected the country’s diversity, with representatives from rural, indigenous, and underrepresented communities, including persons with disabilities.

The selected youth leaders were:

• Zabrina Gonzalez – Santa Elena/San Ignacio, Cayo District
• Vilma Cus – San Miguel Village, Toledo
• Sharlin Chi – San Pablo Village, Orange Walk
• Sharley Torres – Santa Familia Village, Cayo District
• Devonny Quiroz – Belmopan City, Cayo District
• Ezilda Chee – San Pedro Colombia, Toledo

The forum focused on strengthening youth involvement in disaster resilience, empowering young people as advocates for school safety, and fostering collaborative solutions to youth-related challenges.

The Department commended the delegates for their leadership and commitment to creating safer schools across the Caribbean.
