By Aaron Humes: Defying the pronouncement of the Ministry of Education that notice was insufficient, members of the Belize National Teachers Union (BNTU) came out in numbers countrywide to branch meetings held this morning.

The Union sought the advice of its membership in respect of next steps in advancing efforts to obtain an 8.5 percent salary increase and resolving ongoing issues with increments and allowances. Votes are being counted and the Union is expected to inform stakeholders and the general public what it’s next moves are.

Former Minister of Education Francis Fonseca maintained that the government was doing all it can to address teachers’ issues and that the welfare of the nation’s children should be uppermost in everyone’s mind.
