By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize’s Under-20 Women’s National Team are currently playing against Guyana in the 2025 Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Qualifiers. The match, which began at 8:00 am Belize time (10:00 am Antigua time), is taking place at the ABFA Technical Center in St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda.

This encounter marks the first time Belize and Guyana have faced each other in the competition. Both teams are part of Group A in the qualifiers, which also include Haiti and the host nation, Antigua and Barbuda. The stakes are high as the teams compete for a spot in the 2025 Concacaf U-20 Women’s Championship. Only the group winners will advance to the next stage, joining the already-qualified Mexico and the United States.

According to Concacaf, Belize are seeking their first qualification to the Final Round. This is Belize’s fifth appearance in the qualifiers, having participated in 2014, 2018, 2022, and 2023. The team are determined to make history and advance further in the competition.
Guyana, on the other hand, are making their fourth appearance in the Concacaf Women’s U-20 Qualifiers, having previously competed in 2012, 2020, and 2023. They have reached the Final Round twice, with their best result coming in 2020 when they made it to the Quarterfinals.

In other Group A action, Haiti will take on Antigua and Barbuda later today. Haiti are one of the most successful Caribbean nations in the Concacaf Women’s U-20 Qualifiers, having qualified for the final round six times out of seven and finishing on the podium twice, in third place, in 2018 and 2020. Antigua and Barbuda, participating in their ninth qualifiers, are aiming for their first trip to the final round.

The 2025 Concacaf Women’s U-20 Qualifiers feature 24 nations competing across the Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Antigua and Barbuda, and Trinidad and Tobago to determine the six who will advance to the 2025 Concacaf U-20 Women’s Championship. This championship will, in turn, decide the four Concacaf representatives for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
