By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belmopan Capital City Kings clinched a pivotal home win Saturday night, beating the Corozal Cerros Suns 87–77 at the UB Gymnasium in Belmopan in a fast-paced Belize Premier Basketball League (BPBL) game.

Brandon Flowers led all scorers with 25 points and dominated the boards with 15 rebounds, anchoring the Kings’ offense. John Kelly added 17 points and four steals in a defensive effort, while Nisani Mendez chipped in with 11 points and went 9-for-12 from the free throw line.

The Kings commanded the glass, out-rebounding the Suns 57–52 overall and pulling down 12 offensive boards. The Kings out-rebounded Corozal 57–52 and recorded 10 steals and 7 blocks, making up for a 40% shooting performance.

Corozal’s Ray Cruz kept his side competitive with 17 points and five assists, while Greg Rudon scored 16 and nearly finished perfect at the charity stripe, hitting 7 of 8. Forward Jamaal Clifton posted a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds, but the Suns struggled beyond the arc, converting only 3-of-19 three-point attempts (15.8%).

With this victory, Belmopan continue their upward climb in the BPBL standings, demonstrating an improved defense and bench depth.

On the other hand, although the Suns matched Belmopan with 13 assists and 10 steals, turnovers and missed free throws (56.3% team FT) clipped their momentum.
