By Breaking Belize News Staff: The Belize People’s Front (BPF), led by party leader Nancy Marin, has filed a formal complaint to the Elections and Boundaries Department, alleging widespread electoral fraud during the June 29 Village Council elections in Georgeville, Cayo.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Elections Officer and the Elections and Boundaries Commission, Marin expressed “grave concern” over what she described as “organized, blatant” acts of vote buying. The party claims that goods and cash were openly distributed in exchange for votes—some of it allegedly occurring in full view of law enforcement officers.
“These actions were not isolated or subtle—they were organized, blatant, and carried out in full view of the public, including police officers,” Marin stated in the letter.
She noted that the BPF has video and photographic evidence to support their claims, and is prepared to submit the material through proper channels.
Marin warned that such conduct undermines Belize’s democracy. “It compromises the integrity of elections, where outcomes no longer reflect the true will of the people but rather the influence of money and manipulation by the party presently in Government,” she wrote.
The letter also pointed to the broader implications of vote buying, calling it a form of exploitation that feeds political corruption. “It exploits the poverty of vulnerable citizens, reducing democracy to a transaction rather than a civic duty and right,” the letter stated.
The Belize People’s Front is calling on the Elections and Boundaries Commission to launch a full investigation into the alleged misconduct, pursue legal action regardless of political affiliation, and uphold electoral laws across all levels of governance.
“The people of Belize deserve free and fair elections that reflect genuine democratic choice, not coercion or corruption,” Marin emphasized.
The BPF says it is prepared to cooperate fully and provide evidence to support any official investigation.
