By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The long and painful road to justice for the Ramnarace family is expected to reach a major milestone today as convicted triple murderer Elmer Nah returns to court for sentencing.
Nah, a former police corporal from Belmopan, was found guilty last month of murdering Vivian Ramnarace, her husband Jon Ramnarace, and David Ramnarace during a deadly shooting on New Year’s Eve 2022.
Today’s sentencing follows an emotional hearing on Thursday in which family members spoke openly about the devastation left behind by the killings.
One of the most powerful moments came when Vivian Ramnarace’s sister, Vashti Belisle, delivered a victim impact statement detailing the pain the family continues to endure more than three years later.
Particularly heartbreaking was a message from Vivian’s young daughter, who lost both of her parents in the attack. According to the statement read in court, the child initially asked that Nah be sentenced to fifty years in prison before later saying that even fifty years would not be enough.
The emotional testimony left many in the courtroom visibly affected as family members described the lasting impact the tragedy has had on their lives.
Nah’s attorney argued against a life sentence, telling the court that his client is capable of rehabilitation. Nah himself chose not to participate in a Social Inquiry Report and did not present character witnesses during the proceedings.
Despite the conviction, Nah continued to maintain his innocence. As he was escorted from court following Thursday’s hearing, he reportedly told observers, “Don’t watch me fall, watch me rise.”
Justice Nigel Pilgrim reserved his decision until this morning, when the sentence is expected to be handed down.
For the Ramnarace family, today’s hearing is about more than punishment. It is about accountability, closure, and taking another step forward after a tragedy that forever changed their lives.
The court is expected to deliver its ruling later this morning.
