By Zoila Palma: Belize is being represented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries in the 32nd International Beekeeping Congress (Congreso Internacional de Actualización Apícola) held in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico.
The congress is being held from July 1 to 3.
Belize is represented by Extension Officers Miguel Huertas, Federico Chi, and Jesse Madrid, together with three Belizean honey producers and one agriculture teacher from Centro Escolar Mexico Junior College, CEMJC, demonstrating our country’s commitment to strengthening the national beekeeping sector through knowledge exchange and regional collaboration.
The Ministry noted that participants will attend technical presentations, workshops, and exhibitions covering topics such as bee health, queen rearing, medicinal use of honey, honey production, value-added hive products, sustainable beekeeping practices, and innovations in the apiculture industry.
The Ministry says that it remains committed to building the capacity of Belize’s beekeepers by promoting continuous learning, international partnerships, and the adoption of best practices that will enhance productivity, sustainability, and the competitiveness of Belize’s honey industry
