By Zoila Palma: The National Institute of Culture and History (NICH) is supporting Belize’s participation in the 15th Maya Language and Culture International Congress, being held from August 26–29, 2026, in Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo, Mexico.
A 10-member Belizean delegation is taking part in the congress, bringing together Maya leaders, academics, cultural practitioners, community advocates and youth representatives from across the country.
The delegation represents Belize’s Yucatec, Mopan and Q’eqchi’ Maya communities and is contributing to discussions on Maya language, culture, traditional knowledge, identity, history and public policy.
NICH said the participation provides an opportunity to strengthen connections among Maya communities across the region while highlighting Belize’s diverse cultural heritage and living traditions.
