By Zoila Palma:  The Ministry of Economic Transformation, together with the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Solid Waste Management, hosted the second Green and Blue Finance Forum in Punta Gorda Town under the theme, “Leveraging Sustainable Finance to Strengthen Belize’s Orange Economy, Indigenous Heritage and Community Resilience.”

The forum brought together government leaders, international development partners, and community stakeholders to explore opportunities for green and blue investment, sustainable development, climate resilience, and transformational economic growth.

Discussions focused on developing sustainable climate projects that protect Belize’s terrestrial and marine ecosystems while empowering communities.

For the first time, several major development partners participated in the forum, including the Inter-American Development Bank, World Bank, Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, Caribbean Development Bank, CARICOM Development Fund, and the NAP Global Network/International Institute for Sustainable Development.

Their participation provided an opportunity to strengthen partnerships and identify potential avenues for increased investment in Belize’s sustainable development priorities.

The forum also featured a special signing ceremony formalizing Belize’s commitment to the 100% Alliance for Sustainable Ocean Management.

Additional initiatives highlighted during the event focused on community development, agriculture, and strengthening small and medium-sized enterprises as part of efforts to promote inclusive and resilient economic growth.

The Ministry expressed appreciation to the forum’s sponsors and partners, including the Protected Areas Conservation Trust, Development Finance Corporation, Julian Cho Society, and the Belize Fund.
