By Aaron Humes: Belize is set to embark on its Fourth National Climate Week from August 25 to 28, in an ambitious effort to bolster adaptation and resilience amid climate change challenges. Organized by the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Solid Waste Management, the event will take place at Caribbean Motors in Belize City and will include a variety of activities aimed at engaging the public and fostering discussions on climate action.
Under the theme “Adapting Today, Sustaining Tomorrow: Resilient Roots, Greener Future,” the week kicked off with a keynote address from Prime Minister John Briceño. Participants look forward to an engaging program that includes panel discussions, interactive booths, and youth engagement activities spread over four days.
The week will culminate with the National Climate Finance Forum on August 29 at the Grand Resort and Residences, a session dedicated to connecting project proponents with potential funders to enhance financing opportunities for climate initiatives.
Climate Week 2025 aims to highlight the critical role of the Conference of Parties (COP) process in shaping global climate policies. It will focus on Belize’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), carbon market implementation, and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs). The event also aims to elevate the voices of women, Indigenous communities, and youth, emphasizing their essential roles in climate decision-making processes.
Throughout the week, attendees can engage with various booths representing government agencies, NGOs, and the private sector, encouraging collaboration and partnership building in pursuit of climate resilience.
