By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A Belize City resident has reported being the victim of an alleged online scam after paying $800 for an iPhone that was never delivered.

On Wednesday, March 4, 2026, 22-year-old Alyster Castillo, a warehouse assistant of Amara Avenue, visited the CIB office in Belize City to make a report.

Castillo told police that on February 5, 2026, he was browsing the Belize Buy and Sell platform when he saw an advertisement for an iPhone 13 Pro Max being sold for $800 by a person identified as Luis Triston Taylor.

After contacting the seller, Castillo said arrangements were made for him to pay the phone in installments.

Police say Castillo received banking details for an Atlantic Bank account under the name Freyman Romero, where he began making deposits.

Between February 23 and March 3, Castillo made several payments totaling $800, including deposits made at the bank and an online transfer.

He was later told that the phone would be delivered on March 4 at 10:30 a.m., but according to Castillo, the device was never delivered and the money has not been returned.

Police have since recorded a statement and obtained copies of the deposit receipts as investigations continue.
