Belize City man is charged with two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old minor; faces psychiatric evaluation

By Aaron Humes: Mark Steven Godoy Jr., a labourer and a resident of Santa Barbara Street, Belize City has been charged with two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, aged 14.

He is on remand pending a psychiatric evaluation that was ordered to be done on him following his arraignment in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court.

20-year-old Godoy is alleged, on March 1, 2024, and on March 5, 2024, to have had sexual intercourse with a minor under the age of 16, to wit, 14 years 5 months.

In court, no plea was taken from Godoy Jr., as the offense for which he is charged is an indictable offense to be tried at the High Court where he will plea and be tried if sufficient evidence is presented. Due to the nature of the offense, bail was denied and Godoy was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until July 16.

Godoy already faces an order for psychiatric evaluation for a different matter in another court.
