By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 27-year-old maintenance worker, Keron Miguel, has been fined $600 after pleading guilty to stealing his mother’s $300 bicycle. Miguel appeared in Court #2 on Monday, where he was charged with theft.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, when Miguel allegedly took the 24-inch male frame bicycle, owned by his mother, without her permission. According to his mother, Miguel left home with the bicycle around 10:00 p.m., despite her protests, and did not return it.
In court, Miguel initially claimed that his mother had lent him the bicycle, and he had agreed to repay her after losing it while intoxicated. However, after a brief adjournment, Miguel changed his plea to guilty, accepting full responsibility for the theft.
As a result of his guilty plea, Miguel was fined $600—twice the value of the bicycle—and an additional $5 in court costs. He has been ordered to pay the fine by October 31, 2024, or face six months in prison.
