By Zoila Palma: On April 28, 2026, the Belize City Council proudly launched the new Yabra Fish Market, a community-centered initiative developed in partnership with local fishermen and residents to support livelihoods, strengthen small business, and improve the market experience in Yabra.
“Our fishermen work tirelessly each day to provide fresh seafood, and this new market now offers a cleaner, and more welcoming space for them to continue their trade while giving customers a better place to shop,” the Belize City Council said.
The council says that this upgraded facility now features deep freezers, fans, screen doors, a new fish-cleaning station, improved electrical and plumbing systems, and fresh paint and signage that proudly mark this hub of commerce.
Six vendors will operate here, each with access to their own freezer, all at an affordable rate of just $1 per day.
The council thanked everyone whose support and partnership helped bring this project to life.
“We now encourage the public to come out and support our hardworking fishermen by visiting the Yabra Fish Market and purchasing fresh local catch,” the council added.
