By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The Belize Cancer Society has once again put the spotlight on men’s health, successfully hosting its 3rd Annual Men’s Forum at the Belize Civic Center under the theme “From Awareness to Action: Brothers United in the Fight.”

Held in observance of Men’s Health Awareness Month, the forum brought together healthcare professionals, government representatives, cancer survivors, community leaders, and men and boys from across the country for a day of education, inspiration, and advocacy.

The opening ceremony featured remarks from Mrs. Kim Simplis Barrow, President of the Belize Cancer Society, and Dr. Karen Roberts, Advisor for Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health. Attendees were also moved by an inspiring testimony from cancer survivor Mr. Earl Jones, alongside a welcome from Vice Secretary Ms. Monica Tucker and a prayer led by The Most Reverend Archbishop Phillip Wright.

Throughout the day, leading health professionals shared valuable insights. Dr. Irvin Anthony Gabourel emphasised the importance of early detection and screening for prostate and colorectal cancers, while Dr. Jorge Polanco explored the future of men’s health services in Belize and the need for measurable national goals. Dr. Claudina Elington Cayetano addressed men’s mental health, encouraging men to break the stigma around seeking support, and Mr. Grayson Ewing highlighted the role of exercise, nutrition, and healthy lifestyles in preventing chronic diseases.

The programme concluded with an engaging panel discussion titled “Brothers in the Fight, Families Fighting Together,” featuring Dr. Hugh Sanchez and Mr. Francis “Cisco” Woods, followed by an interactive question-and-answer session. Attendees also visited health exhibitors and resource booths offering important health information and services.

While the event has wrapped up, the Belize Cancer Society stressed that the conversation on men’s health must continue. The organisation is encouraging government agencies, businesses, schools, churches, community organisations, and employers to support future forums and promote participation, working toward a culture where men prioritise preventive care, seek timely medical attention, and support one another in living healthier, longer lives.
