By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize Bird Rescue (BBR) is looking to hire a project coordinator and three field technicians for the proposed Yellow-headed Amazon project. The season positions will run from March 18 to July 18, 2024.
According to BBR, the Yellow-headed Amazon project is seeking to conduct a country-wide nest monitoring and population assessment of the Yellow-headed Amazon Parrot in Belize.
“Belize Bird Rescue has coordinated and collaborated with partner organizations in Belize to monitor and protect nests of the globally endangered Yellow-headed Parrot (Amazona oratrix),” BBR said in the call for applications.
BBR said they are looking for a Field Team Leader and three Field Technicians to carry out the field work.
“They will require daily field work under potentially difficult conditions. Camping will be required to maximize field time and reduce the threat of nest poaching,” BBR said

Regarding educational background, BBR said for the post of Project Coordinator, which is a full-time seasonal position, they are looking for persons with a Master of Science in Biology, Wildlife Science, or Natural Resource Management but are also encouraging persons with a Bachelors of Science “with previous experience in project management” to apply.
For the posts of Field Technicians, which are also full-time seasonal positions, they would prefer persons with a Bachelor of Science or Associate degree in Biology, Wildlife Science, or Natural Resource Management, but it’s not a requirement.
Knowledge of bird life in Belize and/or the Neotropics and previous experience in nest monitoring would be a plus.
Applicants are required to provide a clean police record.
The deadline for applications is February 16.
