Belize has officially assumed the Presidency Pro Tempore (PPT) of the Central American Security Commission (CSC), following the conclusion of the 83rd Ordinary Meeting of the Central American Security Commission held on 23 June 2026, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Central American Integration System (SICA) in San Salvador, El Salvador.
The meeting brought together representatives from the SICA member states to review progress under the regional security agenda and discuss coordinated responses to emerging threats affecting the region. Discussions focused on a range of priority areas, including cybersecurity, migration, gender-based violence, restorative juvenile justice, forensic sciences, and regional capacity building initiatives.
The Belize Delegation was led by Rear Admiral Elton Bennett, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Home Affairs and Enterprise. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Dominican Republic formally transferred the Presidency Pro Tempore of the Central American Security Commission to Belize. Rear Admiral Elton Bennett delivered Belize’s acceptance remarks on behalf of the Government and the people of Belize.
Belize now holds the Presidency Pro Tempore of the Central America Security Commission from 1 July to 31 December 2026. The Ministry of Home Affairs and Enterprise is now charged with the implementation of the agreements adopted by the Commission while advancing cooperation among member states on matters of regional security and the fight against transnational organized crime.
The Ministry of Home Affairs remains committed to working closely with regional partners to promote peace, security and sustainable development that will benefit Belize and the Central America region.
