By Breaking Belize News Staff: Sorangel Desire Ayuso, a 29-year-old stay-at-home mother from Belama Phase 4, was back in court on Tuesday facing an additional theft charge linked to a larger fraud case involving over $31,000 stolen from a businesswoman’s Holy Redeemer Credit Union account.
Ayuso appeared before a Senior Magistrate in Court #6, where she was charged with dishonestly appropriating $3,000 from a woman on December 27, 2024. She pleaded not guilty and was granted bail of $2,500 plus one surety. As part of her bail conditions, she must report weekly to the Belama Police Station, stay at least 200 yards away from the victim, and avoid contact with prosecution witnesses.
The new charge comes just months after Ayuso was first arraigned on January 3, 2025, on 13 counts of theft and 13 counts of claiming upon a forged document. She had been accused of systematically withdrawing funds from the woman’s account between September 18 and December 18, 2024, using fraudulent withdrawal slips. The total amount stolen allegedly amounted to $31,000.
The investigation into the latest charge began after the woman discovered another unauthorized withdrawal on January 9, 2025. A male suspect, who initially withdrew the funds using a forged document, later identified Ayuso as the person who orchestrated the fraudulent transaction.
Despite declining to participate in an ID parade or a recorded police interview, Ayuso was ultimately identified in a group lineup. She had previously been remanded to the Belize Central Prison but was released on bail after her February 28 court appearance.
With this latest charge, Ayuso’s legal troubles continue to mount as authorities pursue justice for Ramirez. The case remains under investigation.
