BEL implements load shedding to manage power supply

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) continues to conduct load shedding to manage power supply amidst temporary in-country generation shortages and curtailment of supply from CFE.

Throughout the country, several areas experienced power outages on May 3, 2024.

Some interruptions lasted 2 to 3 hours in some areas.

“Temporary in-country generation shortages and curtailment from Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE) have resulted in insufficient energy supply to meet the growing demand for consumption,” BEL noted.

BEL says that it issues tentative load-shedding schedules based on energy demand projections.

Load shedding is a controlled process of temporarily reducing electricity consumption across different areas to ensure the stability and continuous operation of the national electricity grid.
