By Breaking Belize News Staff: High Court Justice Candace Nanton has denied bail to Belize Defence Force soldier Alexander Fredrick Reynolds, who is accused of shooting and injuring a police officer during a dispute at a repast in Lemonal Village.
Reynolds, 27, is charged with attempted murder, dangerous harm and use of deadly means of harm in connection with the June 22, 2026 shooting of Police Constable Pharon Muslar.
His attorney, Leeroy Banner, argued that Reynolds acted in self-defence and submitted that a proper police investigation would have shown that his client was defending himself during the confrontation.
Justice Nanton, however, noted that Reynolds has two previous convictions and is awaiting trial on two aggravated assault charges. The judge said that although the defence had advanced special reasons for bail, Reynolds’ criminal history and the seriousness of the latest allegations weighed against his release.
Police allege that Muslar was attending a repast when Reynolds pushed him and later fired a shot above his head. A struggle reportedly followed, during which Muslar was shot in the chest and shoulder.
According to the police account, Muslar used a machete to chop Reynolds during the confrontation. Both men were taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Reynolds was later charged and remanded to the Belize Central Prison. He was informed that he may reapply for bail after the required period has elapsed.
