By Breaking Belize News Staff: The appeal of a former San Pedro teacher convicted of sexually assaulting two students is scheduled to be heard in the High Court on September 25, 2026.
Alex Jason Noralez, 47, appeared before Justice Candace Nanton on Wednesday through attorney Leeroy Banner, who substituted for his attorney, Richard “Dickie” Bradley.
The appeal could not proceed because the necessary documents had not yet been filed. Noralez’s grounds of appeal must be submitted by August 14, while the respondent has until August 28 to file a response.
Noralez remains remanded at the Belize Central Prison after being denied bail and a stay of execution pending the outcome of his appeal.
On January 21, 2026, Noralez was convicted of two of three counts of sexual assault involving students at a San Pedro high school. He was acquitted of a third count involving another student.
Noralez maintained that he did not sexually assault the students, telling the lower court that any hugs were innocent.
He was sentenced to 18 months in prison on each count, but the sentences were ordered to run concurrently, meaning he is serving a total of 18 months.
