Alex Balona issues public apology after mocking journalist’s speech impediment

By Horace Palacio: PUP candidate Alex Balona has issued a public apology following intense backlash over his mockery of a journalist’s speech impediment at a recent campaign rally in San Antonio Village.

In a Facebook post, Balona expressed deep regret over his actions, particularly toward those living with impairments or challenges, including the journalist, Kent “Pandy” Pandy. He stated, “I sincerely apologize to everyone from the bottom of my heart.”

The incident unfolded during a public PUP event, where Balona, in an attempt to entertain supporters, imitated Pandy’s stutter, drawing laughter from the crowd. The video quickly went viral, sparking outrage and calls for accountability.

The controversy grew even further when a resurfaced video from the 2020 elections showed Balona spitting in the direction of his political opponent, an incident he later blamed on a fly flying into his mouth.

While his apology has been acknowledged, reactions remain mixed, with some welcoming his statement while others question whether it is genuine or simply damage control as elections approach.

With just days before the general election, it remains to be seen whether this controversy will impact Balona’s campaign in Cayo Central.
