By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP):  Former gang boss Duane “Keffe D” Davis has been found guilty of orchestrating the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur, the first conviction in a case that went unsolved for nearly 30 years.

A Las Vegas jury found the 63 year old guilty of one count of murder with a deadly weapon over the drive by shooting that killed Shakur on September 7, 1996.

Prosecutors argued that while Davis did not fire the gun himself, he ordered the shooting and supplied the weapon used by his nephew Orlando Anderson. Anderson died in an unrelated shooting in 1998 having denied involvement.

The key evidence was Davis’ own words. During a secret 2008 police interview related to the death of Notorious B.I.G., he acknowledged being in the white Cadillac from which the shots were fired. He expanded on his role in a 2019 memoir, which voided a protective agreement that had blocked charges being filed.

His defence argued the comments were fiction, told to sell books. The jury returned a verdict within hours.

Shakur remains widely loved in Belize, where his music still plays on radio stations, at parties and in buses three decades on.

Sentencing is set for October 13. Davis says he will appeal.
