By Aaron Humes: Leon Darrell Lamb, 31, was remanded into custody tonight after facing multiple serious charges related to a recent burglary and alleged sexual offenses. The proceedings took place this afternoon before the Chief Magistrate, who deferred bail decisions until further clarifications are provided.

Lamb, a resident of Antelope Street Extension, was arraigned on four criminal counts: burglary with intent to rape, two counts of wounding, and harm. The charges stem from a break-in reported early Saturday morning, June 28.

According to police reports, officers responded to the scene after the homeowner notified them about the intrusion. Police investigations identified Lamb as a suspect through witness statements and forensic evidence, resulting in his detention. During his detention, Lamb refused to participate in an interview in the presence of a Justice of the Peace.

However, shortly after reading the facts of the case to the court, the Chief Magistrate expressed concerns over the connection between Lamb and the offenses of wounding and harm. She ordered a pause in the case to allow for amended documentation showing the nexus between the accused and the charges.

Lamb also requested permission to speak about his detention circumstances, but the Chief Magistrate instructed him to hold that discussion until tomorrow. She emphasized that her review would include clarifications regarding his prior bail conditions and the case’s factual summary.

This evening, Lamb was remanded into custody until tomorrow, Tuesday, July 1, at 9:00 a.m. The court will reconsider bail once the necessary amendments and clarifications are received.

Lamb has a history of sexual offenses. In June 2024, police confirmed, he was convicted in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl—whom he grabbed by the breast—and was sentenced to 11 months in prison, being released in May. Currently, Lamb is on trial in the High Court before Justice Nigel Pilgrim on charges of rape, with proceedings adjourned until Wednesday, July 2. He also faces another sexual assault case in a lower court.

Police said today that the intruder woke the homeowner and her husband and then assaulted them until they were unconscious before being chased off by another occupant. It appeared his intention, they said, was to rape an 11-year-old girl inside the premises. The charges against Lamb will be based on the facts gathered by the police in support of the case.
