By Zoila Palma:  Belize recorded a significant increase in spending on imported fuel in September 2026, even as imports of machinery, transport equipment and several other categories declined, according to the latest External Trade Report from the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB).

The report shows that imports of mineral fuels and lubricants increased by $18.4 million, climbing from $25.8 million in September 2025 to $44.2 million in September 2026.

The increase reflected larger imported quantities of diesel and bunker C fuel, higher international fuel prices, and premium fuel shipments that were not recorded during September of last year.
