By Zoila Palma: On October 28, 2026, Belize’s agricultural and manufacturing sectors marked a major milestone with the grand opening of the Green Valley Oil Factory in Spanish Lookout, Cayo District.
The soybean oil refinery represents a new chapter in local production, with the goal of reducing dependence on imported cooking oil and adding value to Belize-grown soybeans.
Green Valley’s Quality vegetable oil is hitting the shelves in Belize with a 25% discount on Friday and Saturday.
General Manager Daniel Braun says that the product is natural oil.
“The first thing that I mentioned is that this is a natural oil and there has been no hydrogenation to the oil, meaning that it has a really long chain of bonds making it hard to digest as the normal imported oil. This has not had that phase happening, the hydrogenation, so I really believe this is a good quality oil. When it comes to vegetable oil, I sincerely believe this is the best vegetable oil out there,” Braun said.
Minister of Agriculture Rodwell Ferguson commended the company and said that Belize-made pure vegetable oil is best for your health.
“As I come here, I applaud them for their initiative, for their forecast to start to do processing, because I believe our raw products has low value. When you value-add, then you can go out there and bargain on the CARICOM market and the Central American market and the international markets. And what they’re saying, they have pure vegetable oil, because when you buy oil from abroad, there is something in it that takes up cholesterol. So, I want to test the oil to make sure that my cholesterol remains at a normal level,” Ferguson said.
In addition, Green Valley says that this Belize-made vegetable oil is cheaper than imported oils.
