By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A 47-year-old woman from Yo Creek Village in the Orange Walk District has reported being attacked with a screwdriver by her common-law husband after refusing to give him money.
The woman reported the incident at the Orange Walk Police Station on Sunday, October 25, 2026.
According to her statement, she was at home around 3:00 p.m. when her 37-year-old common-law husband allegedly arrived under the influence of alcohol and requested money to purchase drugs and food.
She reportedly refused to provide money but prepared noodles for him, explaining that she was unable to cook a full meal because she had recently undergone surgery.
After she served him the food, the man allegedly approached her holding a green screwdriver measuring approximately four inches.
Fearing an attack, the woman raised her left hand to protect her face.
Police say the man allegedly struck her three times with the screwdriver, causing bleeding injuries and pain.
Despite her injuries, the woman managed to escape the residence and seek refuge at a neighbour’s home.
She subsequently reported the incident to police and requested court action.
A medical examination classified her injuries as wounding.
Police confirmed that the 37-year-old man, a labourer from Yo Creek Village, was detained in connection with the incident.
