International Organization for Migration, U.S. Embassy and Passport Department collaborate on document fraud detection training

11

By Zoila Palma:  The International Organization for Migration (IOM), in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy and the Belize Nationality and Passport Department, is conducting practical training aimed at strengthening Belize’s capacity to detect fraudulent travel documents and identity fraud.

The training focuses on equipping frontline officers with the knowledge, tools and practical skills needed to examine travel documents and verify identities as fraudulent techniques become increasingly sophisticated.

The initiative is expected to strengthen border security by improving officers’ ability to identify fraudulent documents encountered at Belize’s borders. Effective document examination is also essential in efforts to combat irregular migration, human trafficking, migrant smuggling and other forms of cross-border crime.

This is supported through the European Union-funded Regional Integration and Border Management Project, implemented by IOM.
