By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police say alcohol is believed to have been involved in the fatal road traffic accident that claimed the life of 28-year-old Chad Anton Borland near Belmopan.
Borland died after the Mazda he was travelling in left the Hummingbird Highway near La Cabana and crashed into bushes.
Police say Borland was driving when he lost control of the vehicle and was thrown from it.
Another passenger, identified in earlier reports as 28-year-old Jeffrey Perez, sustained minor injuries and is in stable condition.
During Monday’s police press briefing, investigators were asked whether alcohol may have played a role in the crash and confirmed that information received by police indicates that alcohol was involved.
Earlier reports say the crash occurred at around 4:00 p.m. on October 1. The Mazda reportedly travelled approximately 150 feet off the highway before coming to rest in thick bushes. Borland was found near the vehicle and later pronounced dead at the Western Regional Hospital.
Police investigations continue.
