By Breaking Belize News Staff: Arthur Hill, also known as “Turo,” has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the 2024 stabbing murder of his 19-year-old brother-in-law, Levan Christopher Aldana, and will not be eligible for parole until he has served 29 years.

Justice Candace Nanton handed down the sentence in the High Court on Thursday, just over two months after finding Hill guilty of murder following a judge-alone trial.

Hill’s sentence was backdated to February 1, 2024, giving him credit for the time he has already spent on remand.

The murder occurred on January 31, 2024, in Biscayne Village after Hill and Aldana had been socializing and drinking together. Reports said police were told the two men had previously gotten into altercations while drinking.

At trial, the Crown’s case rested heavily on circumstantial evidence and Aldana’s dying declaration identifying Hill as the person who stabbed him. A police officer testified that the mortally wounded Aldana said words to the effect of, “Dah Arthur Hill do it.” Justice Nanton found that evidence credible and, when considered alongside the other evidence, was satisfied of Hill’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Evidence showed that Aldana and Hill were seen together shortly before the stabbing. Another witness testified that Hill later appeared at his home shirtless, barefoot and sweating, asked to use a telephone and requested a change of clothes. Police subsequently observed what appeared to be blood on Hill’s elbow.

A doctor testified that Aldana suffered three stab wounds — two to the neck and one to the abdomen. The abdominal wound proved fatal, causing extensive internal bleeding and damage to vital organs.

In determining Hill’s minimum period before parole eligibility, Justice Nanton began at 30 years. The court increased that by one year after considering aggravating factors, including the use of a knife, the relationship between Hill and the victim and the suffering caused to Aldana.

Two years were then deducted after the court considered mitigating factors, resulting in a minimum term of 29 years before Hill can become eligible for parole.

Aldana’s mother, Tracey Meighan, was present in court for the sentencing. During an earlier victim-impact hearing, she described Aldana as her first-born son and told the court that watching him suffering after the stabbing left her feeling helpless.

“A part of me died too,” she told the court.

Hill, who was represented by attorney Norman Rodriguez, had maintained his innocence during his trial. He was convicted on July 16, 2026.
