By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A man has been formally charged with common assault in Orange Walk without ever striking a blow, after an 18-year-old woman reported that he stood two feet from her, insulted her, and pointed his finger in her face during a domestic dispute at a Guinea Grass Village home.

According to the Belize Police Department, information was received late Saturday night, August 8, 2026, via the Orange Walk police WhatsApp line, from a woman reporting a domestic dispute at a residence in Guinea Grass Village. An officer on mobile patrol was dispatched to check on the report, and by about 12:30 a.m., he arrived at the police station with a detained man and a complainant prepared to make a report.

The complainant, an 18-year-old domestic of Guinea Grass Village, reported that on Saturday, sometime after 7:20 p.m., her sister had a domestic dispute with her boyfriend, and she went to assist her sister. According to her report, the man then approached her, stood two feet away, began insulting her, and pointed his right index finger in her face, causing her to feel uncomfortable, before going inside a room. She requested court action.

The detained man was identified as Eliseo Venancio Uh, a 31-year-old barber of Otro Benque Road, Orange Walk Town. At the station, he was informed of the report against him and the crime of common assault, cautioned, and informed of his constitutional rights through an acknowledgement form, which he signed of his own free will, along with his custody record. He was placed in a holding cell pending charge, and a statement was recorded from the complainant.

On Sunday, August 9, at 10:30 a.m., police obtained a warrant in the first instance and formally arrested and charged Uh with the crime of common assault. Cautioned once more and asked if he had anything to say in answer to the charge, he chose to remain silent.
