By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A Trial Farm Village mother and daughter returned from Sunday church service to find their home engulfed in flames, and by the time firefighters arrived, the small wooden house and everything inside it, an estimated $23,000 in property, belongings, and personal documents, had been consumed. Mercifully, no one was injured.
According to the Belize Police Department, acting upon information received of a house fire at Trial Farm Village, police visited the scene at the corner of Sparrow Street and San Lorenzo Road at about 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2026, where they observed a small wooden structure with zinc roofing, measuring about 15 feet by 10 feet, engulfed in flames.
The owner, a 63-year-old woman of the address, reported that at about 2:30 p.m. that day, she and her 20-year-old daughter left home to attend church service in the Blackwater area. Upon returning at about 5:40 p.m., she observed smoke coming from her house, and a closer check revealed the home on fire. She called for assistance and for fire personnel, but by the time firefighters arrived, the house had already been consumed in flames.
The lead firefighter and his team extinguished the blaze, and the scene was processed by scenes of crime personnel.
The total value of the house, household items, and personal documents is estimated at $23,000, approximately US$11,500. The house was not insured, meaning the family faces the loss without any coverage to rebuild.
No one was injured. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, a statement is yet to be recorded, and the matter remains under investigation.
