By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A routine morning patrol in Orange Walk Town has produced three traffic charges against a single rider, after police found his driver’s licence expired, his motorcycle’s insurance lapsed since January, and the machine itself unlicensed.
According to the Belize Police Department, on Friday, July 31, 2026, at about 7:40 a.m., officers on mobile patrol along San Ignacio Street observed a blue and black motorcycle travelling from the direction of San Andres Street toward Benque Viejo Street. An officer signalled the rider to stop, and he complied.
Asked for his driver’s licence, the rider replied that it had expired. He was identified as 20-year-old Darwin Moreno, a construction worker of Chan Pine Ridge Village, Orange Walk District.
Checks on the motorcycle deepened his troubles. Police observed that the insurance had expired since January 21, 2026, and that the motorcycle carried no licence. Asked whether he had any updated documents for the vehicle, Moreno replied, “No, sir.”
He was informed of the offences, use of a motor vehicle not covered by third-party risk insurance, use of an unlicensed motor vehicle, and driving without a valid driver’s licence, cautioned, arrested, and escorted to the Orange Walk Police Station, where he was served his rights, which he stated he understood, and the expired insurance disc was retrieved as an exhibit.
At 8:30 a.m. that same morning, police formally arrested and charged Moreno with all three offences. Cautioned once more, he chose to remain silent.
The case echoes an identical triple charge laid against a rider at a Belmopan checkpoint just days ago, and carries the same reminder: an uninsured vehicle on the road leaves anyone it might strike with no third-party cover to claim against, which is precisely why the paperwork is the law and the stops keep coming.
