By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A Guinea Grass Village farmer had his cell phone stolen from inside his own truck, snatched from the passenger seat while he sat behind the steering wheel, and police are seeking a man in connection with the brazen theft.
According to the Belize Police Department, the 67-year-old farmer reported that on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at about 10:50 p.m., his pickup truck was parked in the parking lot of a store in the village. He was seated behind the steering wheel with his cell phone resting on the passenger seat when a man approached the vehicle from the passenger side, reached in for the phone with his right hand, and ran off with it.
The farmer shouted the man’s name, he told police, but the thief made good his escape.
The complainant said he clearly recognized the man, someone he has known since the man was a child growing up in the village, aided by sufficient light from a nearby street light, though he could not recall the clothing the man wore.
The stolen phone is a beige NEO brand smartphone valued at $215, with a transparent blue rubber case valued at $20, a total loss of $235. The farmer requested court action, and a statement was recorded.
Police have listed a person as wanted in connection with the theft. As he has not been detained or charged, his identity is being withheld pending charges.
The matter remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Guinea Grass Sub Station or the Orange Walk police.
