By Breaking Belize News Staff: George Street resident Leon Weir has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison after he was unable to post bail on four charges arising from an alleged domestic dispute with his estranged common-law wife.

Weir, who was previously known as Leon Blease, appeared before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2, where he pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault with a knife, wounding, threat of death and theft.

The charges stem from a complaint made by his estranged common-law wife.

The woman alleges that during a domestic dispute, Weir pulled a knife and assaulted her, caused a wound and threatened to kill her by saying, “I wah kill yuh.”

Weir is also accused of stealing a pair of black Puma tennis shoes valued at $300.

During the hearing, the Senior Magistrate expressed concern for the woman’s safety and asked whether the former couple still lived together. Weir told the court that they had been living in the same household before the incident but had since separated.

He said he would temporarily reside at a George Street address while the case remains before the court.

The prosecution did not object to bail, and Weir was offered bail in the sum of $2,500 plus one surety of the same amount. However, he was unable to meet the bail requirements and was remanded to prison.

His bail conditions prohibit him from contacting or communicating with the woman, her relatives or any prosecution witnesses, whether directly, indirectly, through social media or by any other electronic means.

Weir must also report to the Queen Street Police Station every Wednesday and Friday.

The case was adjourned until September 15, 2026.
