By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A San Jose Village man has been arrested and charged with wounding, after his wife reported a violent attack at their home that left her with medically certified injuries.
According to the Belize Police Department, the 58-year-old woman visited the Trial Farm Police Sub Station on Thursday, July 9, 2026, to report that she had been attacked earlier that afternoon, at around 4:00 p.m., while at home washing dishes.
She told police that her husband arrived home appearing to be under the influence and began directing hostile words at her. To avoid trouble, she said, she moved outside and sat under a tree in the yard. He followed her there, she reported, and the confrontation turned physical. According to her report, he slapped her, grabbed her by the hair, punched her about the head, pushed her to the ground, and kicked her in the back as she called out for help.
Relatives arrived at the scene, and the woman was able to take refuge at a family member’s home nearby. She requested court action.
Police recorded a statement from the complainant and issued medico-legal forms, with a doctor certifying her injuries as wounding.
On Friday, July 10, police obtained a warrant and formally arrested and charged 48-year-old Jaime Adon Escarraga, a Belizean labourer of San Jose Village, with the crime of wounding.
As with any criminal matter, Escarraga is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
