By Zoila Palma:  The FIFA Foundation’s Digital Education Programme is making a significant impact in Belize by equipping more than 10,000 primary school students with digital and life skills through football-based learning.

Belize was selected as one of the first four countries to pilot the initiative, alongside Bhutan, Mauritania and Paraguay, with the global programme expected to benefit more than 130,000 children across the participating nations.

The initiative currently reaches students in 40 schools across Belize, including Eden SDA School in Santa Elena, where children are learning coding, robotics and other digital technologies.

According to teacher Ofni Tzul, the programme addresses a major challenge in the community by providing access to computers, projectors and robotics kits that many students would not otherwise have. He said the resources are helping children develop practical solutions to real-world problems.

The FIFA Foundation’s Digital Education Programme combines football with subjects such as mathematics, science and language to make learning more engaging.

Through hands-on activities, students build skills in problem-solving, creativity, communication, collaboration and confidence, while teachers receive specialized training and ongoing support to integrate digital education into everyday classroom instruction.
