By Breaking Belize News Staff: The World Bank has appointed Achim Fock as its new Division Director for the Caribbean, placing him in charge of the Bank’s strategic engagement and operational portfolio across the region.
The appointment was announced on Wednesday in Washington, D.C.
In his new role, Fock will oversee the World Bank’s lending, analytical and advisory work, and trust funds for Caribbean countries. His work will focus on supporting sustainable and resilient development, including job creation, growth in key economic sectors, the energy transition, disaster risk preparedness and financing, resilient infrastructure, and broader economic resilience.
Fock brings more than 25 years of experience with the World Bank. He most recently served as Country Manager for Zambia, where he was responsible for portfolio management and client engagement. He previously held senior roles as Operations Manager for Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam, and also served as Manager of the Development Effectiveness Unit for South Asia.
He has also worked as a Senior Economist in several countries across Africa, East Asia, and Eastern Europe.
Fock holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics, master’s degrees in Agricultural Science and Agricultural Economics, and a post-graduate diploma in European Integration and International Economics.
