By Zoila Palma: On June 17, 2026, the Belize Police Department recognized the outstanding service and achievements of its officers during a medal and promotion ceremony held at the National Police Training Academy.
Commissioner of Police Dr. Richard Rosado, alongside Deputy Commissioners Bart Jones and S. Bowden, hosted the event, which was attended by Governor General Dame Froyla Tzalam, Minister of Home Affairs Oscar Mira, Chief Executive Officer Elton Bennett, Chief Justice Louise Blenman, senior police officers, retired officers, and family members of the awardees.
During the ceremony, Deputy Commissioner Bart Jones commended officers for their dedication and sacrifice, noting that the medals and promotions represented years of commitment to serving the nation.
Commissioner Rosado highlighted the department’s achievements and praised officers for their professionalism and resilience in addressing modern policing challenges. He reaffirmed the department’s commitment to community policing, institutional reform, and professional development while encouraging recipients to continue leading with integrity.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of medals for long service, exemplary conduct, and meritorious service, as well as the promotion of several Sergeants to the rank of Inspector.
Governor General Dame Froyla Tzalam, accompanied by Commissioner Rosado, presented the awards and promotions.
Minister Mira also praised the collaboration between the government and the police department, emphasizing continued investments in training, technology, and resources to strengthen national security and public safety.
