By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Belize’s sugar industry is preparing to bring the 2026 crop season to a close after industry stakeholders agreed on an official shutdown date following a joint review meeting held earlier this week.
Belize Sugar Industries Limited (BSI), the Sugar Cane Production Committee (SCPC), and the country’s four cane farmers associations have agreed that the 2026 crop season will officially end on **Sunday, June 21, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.**
According to the announcement, the decision was reached after reviewing the amount of cane still available in the fields, current factory delivery rates, and weather forecasts for the coming days.
Industry officials are now urging farmers and harvesters to make final preparations to ensure all harvested cane reaches the mill before the deadline.
The SCPC is also working to coordinate final delivery schedules in an effort to reduce delays and keep operations running smoothly during the final days of the season.
Once the deadline is reached, BSI’s Tower Hill factory will officially stop accepting cane deliveries and close its intake gates for the season.
The sugar industry remains one of Belize’s largest agricultural sectors and plays a major role in the economy of northern Belize, supporting thousands of farmers, harvesters, truckers, and factory workers.
With only a few days remaining, many producers are now focused on completing final deliveries and maximizing production before operations come to a halt.
Industry leaders also expressed gratitude to farmers, harvesters, contractors, and factory employees for their hard work and cooperation throughout the 2026 crop season.
The official closure on June 21 will mark the end of another important chapter for Belize’s sugar industry as preparations begin for next year’s harvest.
